      Actually, that is canon. According to backstory/supplemental materials, by the time of the original three movies, the empire had supplemented the original clone army with troopers of all races and species. That’s why they’re called “Storm Troopers” in IV, V, and VI – they’re not just clones anymore.

         I thought the Empire was hardline human only. Partly because it’d be cheaper than making custom armor for other species, but mostly because the emperor is a dickbucket.
